Rick Moranis, renowned for his roles in ‘Spaceballs’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, and ‘Ghostbusters’, has maintained a low profile and been selective with his roles over the past couple of decades. However, he is now making a return to the big screen to reprise one of his most iconic characters. According to THR, Disney is producing a sequel to 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' titled 'Shrunk.'
The sequel will be directed by Joe Johnston, who also helmed the original film. Joining the cast is Josh Gad, and Moranis will be reprising his role as Wayne Szalinski. The story revolves around Gad's character, the son of Wayne Szalinski, who aspires to follow in his father's footsteps as a great scientist, but accidentally shrinking the kids in the process.
In 1989, the original film earned a substantial $222,700,000 and led to a sequel in 1992, 'Honey, I Blew Up the Kids,' as well as a straight-to-video release in 1997, 'Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.'
However, fans of the movie ‘Ghostbusters’ are left bewildered by the news. Moranis declined to appear in the 2016 reboot, and he also recently declined to appear in the upcoming sequel, 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife.' This raises questions about whether this return marks a single appearance for the actor or if he is indeed stepping back into the limelight.
Disney has yet to announce a release date for 'Shrunk.’
